![]() ![]() I thought the shiny gold would stand out against the dark stain. Solid Brass Classic Floral Knob W/Backplate Birch Plume Applique Pair Lawless Hardware, which were provided to me for free, as a FFFC participant, in exchange for this post about my furniture flip. Here is another project in which I used D.Lawless Hardware. I’ve used their hardware in the past and am always super satisfied with the quality and assortment of products. D.Lawless provided hardware to all of the contestants for free in exchange for writing a blog post about the projects. Lawless Hardware has been in business for 30 years providing a myriad of cabinet hardware to businesses, home builders, crafters, DIY blogs, corporations and online customers. New hardware for this waterfall dresser was provided by D.Lawless Hardware as part of this month’s Fab Furniture Flipping Contest. Add some beautiful hardware and embellishments, and you have a stunning contemporary piece. However, a little paint and stain can go a long way. With the current farmhouse trend, waterfall pieces just aren’t that desirable, at least not in their original state. I frequently paint old pieces to freshen them up and make them more contemporary. They are usually the last ones to sell in my store The Blue Building Antiques and Consignment. Waterfall pieces are not very popular these days. ![]() The before hardware consisted of 4 drawer pulls and 2 knobs that I believe were all original. There were no major or even minor mars or imperfections. The wood beneath the paint was absolutely beautiful. This waterfall dresser was in amazing condition. I sanded and stripped the wood, painted the edges, and stained the top, sides and the drawers. I’m not really sure why someone would use this color scheme but perhaps Caesar needed a new dresser to place beside his chariot. What do you guys think? How do you like the veneer I left in place. Here is a piece I recently restored. This piece is now for sale! I am pretty pleased with the final result. I thought these changes gave the piece a simpler look. Here is a close up of the mirror, it is really sweet and feminine with the etching on the top and bottom.ĭid you notice the changes? I removed the piece in the center under the middle drawer as well as the gold tiles and wood appliqué on the mirror. The knobs did not clean up real well so I used Rub-n-Buff in silver to finish those. I only needed one coat of paint and the wax went on really easy too.Ĭlose up of the veneer I did leave. On the flip side, this was a very easy piece to paint. The iron trick worked and it was a bit fun to scrap away all that veneer but it took a really long time! ![]() Next time I have a piece with peeling veneer I will likely not take the project on. It was time consuming and pretty much ruined my iron. I used an iron to get the veneer off by using a wet towel with a hot iron on top to steam the wood to pop off. So it’s been sitting in the garage under construction since February. I would work it in about 1 hour increments and come back to it as time allowed. It took a lot of prep work to get this one paintable. In waiting were the roof was leaky and it got wet which cause a lot of the veneer to peel up and the drawers were really tight because the wood swelled up. This piece came from an estate sale my Mom went to last Summer and it sat in waiting for a while. Here is the before, I almost forgot to get before pictures on this one so it is sans drawers. Really great pop of color with nice smooth lines I wanted to leave some of the decorative veneer in place and I think it really is nice to see those accent pieces. I’m pretty happy with the way this one turned out. Originally I had planned to paint this one green but when it came time to paint it just didn’t feel right so I went with ASCP in Aubusson Blue which is one of my favorite colors. This great waterfall vanity is a different type of piece for me and it was really fun to paint! Sorry for the un-staged photos, this one was just to big to move around so I took them in the garage. I am hoping to have several pieces finished up soon…I want to get my garage cleaned out and I want to get as much painted as I can before it gets too hot for Summer. I’ve been busy working on furniture lately. ![]()
